update: Earlier today I sent out a snippet regarding Communion.
If it was possible for your family to target 7:00 pm as time to take communion together on Friday, we could as a church family participate at the same time, even though we are apart.
If 7:00 pm does not work for your family, I hope you can find a time to have communion together.
Communion Snippets from Pastor Paul
I want to share some thoughts with you concerning communion. In Exodus chapter 12, there were instructions given concerning Passover preparation. In Exod. 12:3 the Bible says, Speak unto all the congregation of Israel… Following this verse were instructions on what they were to do.
In verses 12-13 the Bible says:
12 ‘For I will pass through the land of Egypt on that night, and will strike all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am thy LORD. 13 Now the blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you are. And when I see the blood, I will pass over you; and the plague shall not be on you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. This story shows us an example of what Christ would be to us. A sacrificial lamb, who’s life and blood would cleanse, protect and deliver His people.
The children of Israel were not going to be assembling as a congregation to take part of this event, rather each family would be deployed to lockdown in their homes to carry out the instructions. And now, here we are, locked down in our own homes not being able to assemble as a congregation.
I would like to stretch your faith this Easter week. I would like to encourage the head of each household to take the lead, as the priest of your home. Good Friday is tomorrow. I want to encourage you to prepare communion and lead your family in a communion service. You can prepare some juice, crackers or bread and have a communion setting in your own home. This may be a real challenge to you. Maybe make you come out of your comfort zone. But I believe God will honor you in this step that will stretch your faith and embolden your walk with Him.
Here is a simple outline:
• Prepare communion
• Bring the family together
• Institute the Lord’s Supper
1. Pray over the communion, asking God to bless the bread that represents the Lords body which was broken for us and the juice, representing the blood of the Lord that was shed for our sins.
2. Pass communion items to each family member.
3. Remind the family you are doing this to remember what Jesus did for us on the cross.
4. Read passage of scripture
I Cor. 11:23-26 Institution of the Lord’s Supper
23 For I received from the Lord that which I also delivered to you: that the Lord Jesus on the same night in which He was betrayed took bread; 24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, “Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you; do this in remembrance of Me.” (Have family partake of the bread together) 25 In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (Have family partake of the juice together) 26 For as often as you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death till He comes.
I believe every family that institutes the Lord’s Supper together, God will honor and bless in a refreshing way. I believe this will embolden your walk with God and draw your family closer together.
