Essential vs. Non-Essential in the Coronavirus Pandemic

We are watching an event unfold in front of our eyes like I could have never imagined. A fight over what is essential and what is not essential. A fight over who is essential and who is not essential. There are many who are suspicious.

The outcome of this pandemic is being overshadowed by intimidation, manipulation, and domination by certain authorities demanding power and using that power against the people.

No doubt you have heard the suspicion that the overbearing control is not about the virus, but a test run on socialism, marshal law, domination and even shutting down the churches in America. That is just thoughts I read from others.

I do have to admit my surprise and concern at how low on the essential scale are the people of faith. Across our nation there are several governors backed up by local people of power that have declared the church to be non-essential. Now over two months into the shutdown, people of faith remain non-essential. This essential vs non-essential has weighed heavy on my mind.

Here is just a thought. What if God has His own testing taking place. It is just a thought. I am not saying I am right. But, just consider the possibility.

The Bible says, Matthew 24:37 New King James Version
But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.
What were the days of Noah like? Genesis 6 we find the story.
• The earth was corrupt before God
• The earth was filled with violence
• The world was filled with wickedness

In a wicked world God provided a way of escape and there were no takers except Noah and his family because the ark and Noah were considered non-essential to society in that day. Given what we know about sinful man and the wickedness of the pre-flood world (Genesis 6:5), it is certainly plausible that Noah, a “preacher of righteousness,” endured scoffers.

People of that day likely considered Noah non-essential. They considered the message of Noah, non-essential. They considered the ark, non-essential. But a time came when society realized Noah (the person with the message of hope), and the ark (a place of refuge and hope) was essential after all.

There came a day when a flood came that changed the world. Can you imagine what the people who declared the ark and Noah non-essential might have realized. By the time people realized how essential the message of hope was, and the ark (place of refuge, the local church) was, it was too late. They were left behind and perished.

Matthew 24:37 New King James Version
But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be.

I still believe in the second coming of the Lord.

Is God is allowing a test of His own to be conducted today?

What are the conditions of the world?
Corrupt, lawless, violent, wicked
What is the viewpoint from much of society toward God?
Non-essential?
What is the viewpoint from society toward people of faith?
Non-essential?

Just as the flood came suddenly, in the in the days of Noah, Jesus will return suddenly. I am glad we; the people of faith are essential to him. We look for his return.

Matthew 24
27 For as the lightning comes from the east and flashes to the west,
so also will the coming of the Son of Man be
29 “Immediately after the tribulation of those days the sun will be darkened,
and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from heaven, and
the powers of the heavens will be shaken.
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and then all
the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the Son of Man
coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.
31 And He will send His angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they
will gather together His elect from the four winds, from one end of
heaven to the other..

In the days of Noah, they never found out how essential he and the ark were, till it was too late.

In the days of the coming of Jesus, many will never find out how essential the gospel, the local church, and people of faith with the message of hope are, till it is too late.

The fear, panic and effects of this current pandemic, is having an impact on the lives of hundreds of millions of people around the world. Can you imagine the chaos there will be on planet earth when Jesus comes, and the people of faith are gone? Somebody will label us as essential then. People will be crying out for hope, but no hope will be found. People will be crying out for guidance, but those who could point the way with the message of hope will be gone. Just as it was in the days of Noah.

I am glad I have a blessed event to look forward to in my life. I am glad I am not going to be here after Jesus comes. I pray you are not either.

If you are not sure of your spiritual condition, it is time to do a tune up on your spiritual life. The event of Jesus coming is not an event you want to consider non-essential and then find out how essential it was. Jesus still saves the lost. Jesus still forgives those who miss the mark in sin. Jesus is still essential. He provides a message of hope that is essential. And, He’s coming back, just like He said.

It’s just a thought
But, what if I’m right.
